Our Mission

OUR MISSION:

To establish a dog park in one of the empty lots of the First Friday/ Downtown Phoenix area to deal with the issue of this area not being so pet friendly despite the countless numbers of pet owners in the area. But along with fixing this issue, we hope to bring along pet/stray awareness to bring down the numbers of strays in our community. Finally another problem we feel we can fix with this project are the issues of walkability and family friendly concerns. Concerns like the 1st Friday/downtown phoenix area not providing a place for family and children and making the streets a little bit more welcoming to walk thru.

Our Vision

OUR VISION:

To have the First Friday and Downtown Phoenix Community more pet friendly and with more pet awareness. Thus causing less stray animals and a more relaxing city environment for our furry companions. This, in our eyes, results in not one but MANY dog parks in the Downtown area, equipped with dog walking trails. All together, attracting more families to this area and making it a more comfortable, less intimidating, and familiar area to be at. This, to us, is true urban vibrancy.

So... Who are we??

Hello and welcome to our blog!

We are a group of high school students from Bioscience High School in Phoenix, AZ; we came together to make our dream of filling up one of the empty lots in Downtown Phoenix Area/ 1st Friday area with a full fledged dog park. In case you don't know, the area of 1st Friday that we plan to work with is the area all across Roosevelt St. (here's the website for more info http://www.rooseveltrow.org/)

Okay, so far, we can guess what most of you are thinking "High schoolers? Psh! they won't make it far..."
But we are willing to make our vision for downtown Phoenix come true, and we are starting small, by trying to affect the 1st Friday area first. We have worked hard this school year and have attained many connections who are willing to help.

Our current connections are:
 -Many Roosevelt Row Directors like
Ms. Cindy Dach
Mr. Sean Sweat
Ms. Karen Williams
-AZ humane Society
Volunteer Manager: Sharon Consella
 -Maricopa Animal Care & Control
Volunteer Manager: Samantha Spinelli

And Partners we plan to include are:

-The City of Pheonix

-SRP
-And some Maricopa County Assesors (since they are the ones our group needs to speak to, to be able to get a hold of a peice of land to start off the dog park)

It's a big job for a couple of kids who seem to have their heads up in the clouds, but we aim to do it, and we will you (our wonderful audience) posted with daily blogs of our progress and out reach in the community. So hang in there, and thank you for listening!!

Sincerely;

THE MUTT CREW
